July has a way of encouraging us to slow down and appreciate the blessings that surround us. Across Saskatchewan, the long days and warm evenings offer opportunities to spend time with family and friends, enjoy the beauty of our province, and reflect on the things that matter most. In the midst of summer’s activity, we are often given the gift of perspective.
As I continue my journey as your Grand Master, I find myself returning often to my theme for the year: “It Starts with Me.” While the words are simple, the challenge they present is significant. They remind me that before I can ask anything of others, I must first be prepared to ask it of myself.
Leadership is not measured by titles, offices, or accomplishments. More often, it is found in the example we set each day. It is reflected in how we treat one another, how we respond to challenges, and how willing we are to continue learning and growing. The most meaningful changes within our Craft often begin with small, personal decisions that may go unnoticed by everyone except ourselves.
Like many of you, I occasionally find myself wishing that certain things could be improved. Yet whenever I do, I am reminded that positive change rarely begins with someone else. It begins when each of us chooses to take responsibility for our own actions, attitudes, and contributions. The question is not, “What should others do?” but rather, “What can I do today?”
Summer also reminds us that growth takes time. A field does not mature overnight, nor does a garden flourish without attention and care. The same is true of our personal development. The work of becoming a better Mason, a better leader, and a better man is accomplished through consistent effort, patience, and a willingness to keep moving forward, even when progress seems slow.
As you enjoy the summer months, I encourage you to take a few moments for reflection. Consider where your own journey may be leading and what opportunities lie before you. Ask yourself where the next step begins. You may discover that the answer is both simple and powerful: it starts with you.
Thank you, Brethren, for your continued support, friendship, and dedication to our Craft. It is a privilege to serve as your Grand Master, and I look forward to the many opportunities we will share in the months ahead.
Fraternally,
Mike Keogan
